Galerie Ling represents a series of emerging Chinese artists. We place our value on quality, innovation and artistic integrity.
The economic crisis has brought a period of reflection to the Chinese art market. “Political Pop”, the style once synonymous with “Chinese Avant-garde”, has revealed itself as ostentatious, inflated, unimaginative both in topic and technique. Once again Chinese artists are thrown back to the primary question: how to make art anew?
The answer is simple and complex at once: by going back to the root value of art, which is individuality. This means in turn: not cater to the immediate market demand but instead think and experiment following one’s own intuition. Any artist determined to go this way, will deliver quality and content in his art.
And this is the art Galerie Ling adheres to. It is the independent spirit, joined with the necessary skill to express it, that we stand for, and we celebrate the variety of styles and approaches that result from it.
The day where Chinese art no longer has to brand itself as “avant-garde” and Chinese artists turn to the inherent challenges of art making, that will be the day Chinese art truly matures. A glimpse of that future may be gained here, in Galerie Ling.
